Pulse oximeter

A pulse oximeter is a small, non-invasive medical device for immediate measurement of blood oxygen saturation and heart rate at the same time. The examination is very simple: the device is gently clipped onto the tip of the patient's finger.

The device works on the principle of light passing through tissue, so it does not damage the skin and causes no pain. For the doctor, this oxygenation value is critically important when assessing lung function and the overall state of the patient's respiratory system.

The measurement is regularly used for people with respiratory conditions, asthma, pneumonia or when monitoring patients with chronic difficulties. The result appears on a clear digital display within seconds, allowing an immediate response in case of insufficient oxygenation.

The patient thus receives instant feedback on their breathing without any need for blood sampling.
